Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships

The Australian Government Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships provide opportunities to establish strong, long lasting personal, academic and professional relationships between people, institutions and countries.

I’ve never stayed outside of Bangladesh for this long. It has transformed me as a person, my outlook towards the world, my way of thinking. It has shaped me differently. Endeavour gave me this opportunity that I can collaborate with so many world leading experts. That’s great.

The program is merit based and is open to both Australians to undertake their program in a participating country overseas, and international applicants to undertake their program in Australia. I was lucky enough to spend six months in Canada, and then across the Atlantic, six months in Switzerland.

I made contacts that I hadn’t even dreamt of. The Endeavour really does take you to that extra level in terms of your standard of living, in terms of the opportunities to conduct field research. That’s something that most students really struggle with. Since 2007, over 5,800 individuals have accepted an Endeavour scholarship or fellowship to undertake research, study or professional development overseas.

It’s a great opportunity, and Australia is a multicultural country and everyone here is friendly. It does help me a lot with my views and perspectives in terms of cultural awareness and everything, and building a global vision. The whole reason for going to Oxford on my Endeavour was to get access to the world leaders so that I could learn from them and then apply that back here in a very local context with the Aboriginal community.

The program supports a range of opportunities for study, research and professional development. Information about these categories, and if you are eligible to apply, are on our website. I had the opportunity to start tutoring at research school, Medical School teaching medical students, workers, research assistants for government projects.

There are so many opportunities every day, which is very hard to take one. I’m learning skills of doing research in economics that are not available in my country. Successful recipients benefit from a dedicated case manager from the commencement of their program, travel and establishment allowances, monthly stipends, tuition fees, health and travel insurance, and on completion membership of an active alumni network so you can maintain the professional relationships and friendships made during your program.

The annual round usually opens in mid-April and closes on 30 June. When applying, it is important to read the guidelines thoroughly and allow enough time to prepare a high quality application. The program is accepted and widely respected throughout, because everybody knows Endeavour. Once you have the backing of a name like Endeavour, all these doors start opening. The world of opportunities have opened to you. If you never try it you’ll never know.
